OUR STORY
State Line Auto Auction, Where History Drives the Future
Since 1981, our auction has been more than just a place to buy and sell vehicles—it's been a cornerstone of the Waverly community. But our roots stretch far deeper, with over 100 years of family business conducted on this very land. Today, in our third generation of ownership, Beth, Emily, and Paul proudly represent the fifth generation of entrepreneurs in our family.
Our journey began with two auction lanes, expanding to six in the late 1980s and growing to an eight-lane facility in 1995. That same year, we made history by becoming the first auto auction in the world to sell a car via Simulcast, forever changing the industry. In 2024 we added an in-person video lane, where we run inoperable and oversized vehicles, RV’s, powersports, and other miscellaneous vehicles on our TV monitors, growing our auction to nine permanent lanes.
At the heart of our business is our team. We take immense pride in the longevity of our workforce, many of whom started locally and worked their way up. Their dedication, knowledge, and commitment to excellence are the foundation of the great service we provide. After all, you can't have exceptional customer service without exceptional people.
Our commitment to innovation has always been paired with a deep respect for tradition. From Harry Barber founding the auction in 1981 to Jeff stepping in to carry on his vision in 1983, to welcoming the next generation—Beth, Emily and Paul—in 2012-2013, our story is one of resilience, growth, and family.
Beyond cars, we cherish the stories and history embedded in our collectibles. From a treasured pedal car showcased at the NAAA charity auction to vintage signage and even horses from the city of Rochester, these pieces reflect our rich heritage and connection to the past.
As we reflect on the past and look forward to the future, we're incredibly proud to call Waverly home and grateful to the community that has supported us through decades of change and progress.
